Delivery of Goodies and Some Work on a UFO!!

Went to my postbox this morning and found 4 packages full of lovely goodies waiting for me: Positively Postcards by Bonnie Sabel and Louis-Philippe O’Donnell (can’t wait ti get stuck into that one), my bi-monthly batik pack from Hannah’s Room’s Beautiful Batik Club, Calico, Bondaweb, Kaffe Fassett layer cake and some glue to repair a favourite handbag from Cotton Patch and my long-awaited Hotfix kit with gems – I feel a bit of bling coming on… Goodies by Post

So this all made me realise that I really can’t start anything else without finishing something off at the same time, so I delved into the UFO cupboard for the quilt that is the nearest to completion. This has been on the go for about 5 years. It started as one block that was featured in a magazine – possibly ‘The Quilter’. The block was meant to be the centre of a stitch along mystery quilt, but I never got further than the 1st block, so it languished for a while and then got brought out when I started doing beginners’ patchwork classes back in 2009.

I used the colour scheme for a sampler quilt that the students made along with me and I put it together bit by bit. Then I decided I wanted a Pineapple border (you’ll see why when I photograph the whole quilt in a day or two). This Pineapple border has been the stumbling block – each 6″ block has 27 pieces and the Pineapple blocks in the main body of the quilt were quilted in the ditch on EVERY seam line. No thank you very much, I did not want to repeat that exercise, so every now and then I half-heartedly make another few blocks.

But now, a decision has been made and action has been taken. I am quilting the blocks on my Janome 350e embroidery machine!! A design has been chosen and 10 blocks quilted. Yayyy!!!! I think this quilt will now get finished. Don’t they look lovely? I may do a bit of fmq just to bring the quilting up to the edges of the blocks, but that won’t take long. And just as a point of interest – in the time it took me to make 1 block, the embroidery machine quilted 9! Woohoo – we’re running on this one…

And just for some light relief, I thought I would make another house postcard, just in case another friend decides on a move – but really just because I love these little houses from Designs by Juju.

Still needs to be cut to size and made up, but so sweet! And I love the way this background piece worked out. Need to do more of those…
